News: PR1MA Due Diligence Report To Be Released Next Month

Jul 5, 2019

Housing and Local Government Minister Zuraida Kamaruddin expects the due diligence report for the 1Malaysia People’s Housing (PR1MA) scheme to be completed next month.

With this, PR1MA chairman Tan Sri Eddy Chen Lok Loi led a three-day retreat that started on Thursday (4 July) to discuss projects that should be given focus and seek solutions for PR1MA housing problems, reported Bernama.

“In the last one year the PR1MA members have been studying and reviewing the 94 PR1MA projects in efforts to categorise them according to priority and assessed risk,” said Zuraida.

“In general, we will resolve those with low risks which will generate returns to help us cover the high-risk projects.”

She noted that the 94 projects involved 94,000 housing units nationwide.

The Minister also debunked rumours that PR1MA would be dissolved, saying that it will continue to operate as usual to deliver affordable housing for the people.

In fact, 14,000 bookings for affordable houses have been received following the Home Ownership Campaign’s (HOC) extension till the end of this year. This means more unsold PR1MA units will be taken up.

When Pakatan Harapan took over Malaysia, PR1MA was given two years by the ministry to resolve the housing issues.

“After one year, PR1MA managed to solve 50 percent of the problems faced and I am confident the remaining 50 percent would be resolved,” said Zuraida.

PR1MA’s liabilities had also been reduced from RM23 billion to RM12 billion, she added.
